Ever have one of those days?

Every had one of those days? This is an actual word-for word exchange (names censored to protect the muggles) I had with someone in HR this week while trying to troubleshoot a problem they were having with our ERP system.

Could you also send me that last import file you tried where it truncated the phone number?

Actually I need the import file, not the database. The c:\employees.csv file.

John,

  1. I’m sure this happens a lot. But this is why certain people are developers while others work in HR. I think developers need to step away and remember that sometimes. Not everybody is as good with computers nor do they need to be given the parameters of their job. My two cents, respectfully.

    • I agree completely, but not knowing where a file is right after being given the exact path to it?

This person uses a computer all day to do their job.

    • I still maintain that basic (and this is basic) computer literacy is necessary for someone working in a modern office. It isn’t like I asked them to disassemble a program.
